
Vipers Close Out Home Stand with 114-101 Win Over Jam

HIDALGO, Texas - Jeff Trepagnier scored 18 points off the bench against his former club as he helped lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 114-101 victory over the Bakersfield Jam in front of 5,442 fans Saturday night at Dodge Arena. The Vipers have now won the of their last four contests and eight out of their last thirteen. The Jam meanwhile saw their four game win streak come to and end.
Rio Grande Valley started the game red hot. After the Jam took an 11-10 lead on a Justin Reed lay-up with 7:12 remaining in the 1st quarter the Vipers followed up with a 23-9 run to give RGV a 33-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bakersfield answered back by outscoring the Vipers 31-25 in the second quarter trimming the Vipers lead to 58-50 at halftime.
The Jam would close the deficit to one in the third quarter. Viper point guard Jared Jordan was hit with a technical foul arguing a call with Bakersfield only down two. Terrence Thomas hit the subsequent free-throw to make the score 74-73 with 2:06 remaining in the third frame. The Vipers would not let Bakersfield any closer as they finished out the third quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 82-73. The Jam wouldn't get within seven the rest of the way as the Vipers closed out the victory, their first over the Jam this season.
Jawad Williams scored a game high 23 points and hauled in rebounds to lead the effort for RGV. Kurt Looby tallied his eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan scored nine and dished out 12 assists and Julian Sensley scored 10 points and hauled in five rebounds.
Trey Johnson scored 21 points and hauled in six rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the effort for Bakersfield. Justin Reed and Derrick Byars each scored 12 points hauling in eight and seven rebounds respectively. Former Viper Alpha Bangura scored 13 points in his return to Dodge Arena.
The Vipers will travel to Orem, UT on Wednesday night as they face the Utah Flash for the second and final time this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm CT.
