March 18, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they have acquired Julian Sensley, from the D-League player pool. To make room on the roster, the Vipers waived Marcus Hubbard due to injury.
A 6-9, 230 pound, 26-year old power forward out of the University of Hawaii, Sensley had most recently been playing with the Colorado 14ers. In seven games off the bench, Sensley averaged 8.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 17.3 minutes of work per game. He shot 51% from the floor, including a 6-16 mark from behind the arc.
Sensley also played in seven games for the 14ers last year, averaging 16.7 points and 8.9 rebounds in 32.6 minutes of work per game. He shot 49% from the floor, including an 11-19 mark (57.9%) from behind the arc. His season was cut short due to an ankle injury suffered during practice.
Sensley was in training camp with the 14ers in 2006 after being selected in the fourth round (46th pick overall) of the D-League draft, but never participated due to a neck injury. He went onto play for Grupo Capitol Valladolid in Spain and Livorno in Italy for a total of nine games, during which time he averaged 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
Sensley also participated in the 2006 NBA summer league with the Golden State Warriors.
"With the unfortunate injury to Marcus Hubbard, the acquisition of Julian Sensley will hopefully provide a seamless transition at the power forward position. Julian's an accomplished veteran and we're looking forward to adding him to our roster. We expect him to play for us on Friday in Albuquerque," Vipers head coach Clay Moser said.
During a three-year career at Hawaii, Sensley became the ninth all- time leading scorer in school history with 1,230 points. He also ranks in the top ten in field goals made (457, seventh), three-point field goals made (102, eighth), free throws made (214, ninth), rebounds (598, seventh), assists (289, ninth), steals (108, ninth) and blocked shots (69, tenth). He started 86 of his 89-career games.
Sensley earned First Team All-WAC honors as a senior during the 2005-06 season when he averaged a team-high 17.6 points (fifth in the WAC), 5.8 rebounds (tenth) and 3.2 assists (eighth).
Sensley started his career during the 2002-03 season at Los Angeles City College, where he helped to lead his team to a 36-2 record and the California Community College Championship. Sensley was named First Team All-State after averaging 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to go with a 52.8% shooting percentage.
Hubbard averaged 9.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Vipers in 23 contests. Overall, he was at 8.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 37 contests. Hubbard was injured during Saturday's win at Idaho.
