Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - Hoping to bounce back after a home field loss on Saturday, the Victoria Seals returned to Royal Athletic Park for game three of a five game series against Na Koa Ikaika Maui. Sending Chris Bodishbaugh (0-0) to the mound in the right-hander's season debut, the Seals were met with David Seccombe (0-0) who started things off for the visitors.

Just four pitches into the ball game, Fehlandt Lentini handed the Seals an ominous start with a home run blast over the left field fence for a 1-0 Maui lead. Doubling their advantage in the top of the second, a lead-off single from Mark Okano translated into a 2-0 lead when Seccombe picked up an RBI groundout. Na Koa Ikaika would add another run in the top of the thing inning, putting three straight base runners on with two outs in the inning to extend the advantage to 3-0.

Victoria finally provided a response in the fifth frame when a lead-off single from Matt Kavanaugh set up a two-run blast from Chris Van Rossum, his first home run of the season. Not to be outdone, Chris Nash padded the Maui lead in the top of the sixth with a home run of his own to make it 4-2 visitors.

Finding a little momentum in the late stages of the game, the Seals chipped away at the Maui lead with an RBI groundout from pinch-hitter Charlie Strandlund after Eric Pringle led off the seventh inning with a triple. Tying the game one frame later, three hit batters by Maui relievers Kelly Casares and Gered MacKintosh combined helped Victoria even the score 4-4 on a pass ball.

Striking back in the top of the ninth inning, Fehlandt Lentini smoked his second lead-off home run of the game over the left field fence to put Na Koa Ikaika back up by one. But with two outs in the bottom of the frame, back-to-back singles from Wilver Perez and Colin Moro made way for the tying run on a wild pitch, and the eventual game-winning double courtesy of Terrence McClain.

Aaron Easton gets credit for the win on the hill, while veteran Jerry Spradlin takes the loss in his first appearance of the young season for Maui. Fehlandt Lentini's pair of solo home runs were not enough on the afternoon, with Colin Moro picking up a pair of hits and the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Game four of the five-game set against Maui goes tomorrow night, a 7:05 p.m. start time on the Victoria Day holiday at Royal Athletic Park. The contest will also be broadcast live online at www.victoriaseals.ca, and in the ballpark on 88.1 FM. Both single game and season tickets for the 2010 campaign are now on sale, available through the Victoria Seals office. Call (250) 220-7777 for more information, or to book your seat today!
