Victoria Seals Feeling a Little Blue

August 13, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that they will play host to a Tour de Rock Fundraiser during the final game of a three game series against the St. George RoadRunners tonight. Proceeds from the evening's festivities will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer foundation, with the players vowing to dye their hair blue should Seals fans raise over $2,000 at the game!

Media riders Mira Laurence (/A Vancouver Island) and Robin Farrell (KOOL FM) will be on hand to host tonight's game. Tour de Rock will be sponsoring the 50/50 draw along with several raffles and promotions, including a top of the line touring bicycle up for grabs!

Anthem Hair Salon will also be on-site during tonight's game to offer haircuts by donation right on the concourse! Should Tour de Rock net over $2,000 during game three, several of the Seals players will be getting a new look of their own - dying their hair blue in support of the Canadian Cancer Foundation.

The Tour de Rock cycling event is presented by Cops for Cancer, a partnership between the Canadian Cancer Society, municipal police officers, RCMP (including Auxiliaries and Reserves), military police and media. Between September 18 and October 1, 2010, riders will cycle almost 1,000 kilometres from Port Alice to Victoria in the 13th annual Tour de Rock.

In the past twelve years, over $13 million has been raised, with $1.8 million in 2007 alone! Riders will have spent 6 months, 8,000 hours and cycled 3,000 kilometres while training for the 13-day tour.

Riders raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research and programs that support kids with cancer, such as Camp Goodtimes. Without your donations and support this could not be made possible!

Game three of the series between St. George and Victoria is slated for 7:05 p.m. (PT), and will feature a pre-game presentation for new Golden Baseball League stolen base record holder Wilver Perez. Tickets are available by calling (250) 220-7777, or online via www.victoriaseals.ca. The contest will also be broadcast through the Seals website, beginning ten minutes before the scheduled first pitch!
