Toros Lose Their Sixth Straight 3-2 In Extras

August 13, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release

The Tucson Toros dropped their 6th game in row after a 3-2 losing effort to Calgary in extra-innings Thursday night in what proved to be a pitcher's duel between Toros starter James Garcia and the Vipers Dusty Gober.

After allowing a run in the 1st inning, Garcia went on to throw 7 scoreless innings while striking out 4 batters in 8 innings of work. Not to be outdone, Gober threw for 7 scoreless innings for Calgary while striking out 5 Toro batters.

It was not until after Gober came out of the game when the Toros finally tied it up a 1 apiece in the 8th inning. 1B Cristobal Santana hit a clutch 2-out RBI single to center that scored LF Lino Garcia from second.

With the game tied in the 10th inning, Santana came through again with another 2-out RBI hit, this time a double, which scored RF Francisco Plasencia from first to give Tucson the 2-1 lead. Santana finished the night with 3 hits in 5 at-bats and 2 RBI.

Toros closer Emiliano Fruto came into the game in the 9th inning to secure the then 1-1 tie as he sat down the Vipers 1-2-3 while striking out one batter. In the bottom of the 10th inning however, the script got flipped on Fruto as he allowed the first three batters he faced to get on base and then gave up the winning run when Vipers CF Julio Ramirez hit a 2 RBI single to give Calgary the 3-2 victory.

This loss was the 5th of the 6 skid that was determined by a single run.

The Toros will close up the final game of this 5 game series against the Calgary Vipers Friday night at 6:05 p.m. Tucson time.
