Orange County Flyers News Release
The Orange County Flyers have plenty of excitement planned for this weekend's home doubleheader against the Tijuana Cimarrones at "The Station" Goodwin Field beginning at 5:05pm. Former National League All-Star Mark Prior, who pitched five seasons for the Chicago Cubs from 2002-2006, will pitch for Orange County in the first game of the doubleheader. The Flyers will also insert KROQ's afternoon radio host Stryker into the lineup in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Stryker won a spot on the Flyers roster at a celebrity tryout, and he is expected to lead off the bottom of the first inning of the second game for Orange County. Tickets are available for the doubleheader online [click here] or by calling the team office at (714) 526-8326.
The Flyers are coming off a record-breaking win against the Tijuana Cimarrones on Thursday afternoon in Yuma. Orange County's 29-2 win featured the most runs (29), largest margin of victory (27), most walks (16), and most runs in an inning (11) in franchise history. Steve Boggs led the offense tying team records with 7 RBI and 3 doubles in a 4-for-6 performance. David Harris and Jim Goethals each scored five runs, becoming the third and fourth Flyers to score five runs in a single game.
Winning pitcher Manny Ayala became the first in the GBL to 10 wins on the year, improving to 10-0 with six scoreless innings of work, scattering six hits and getting three double plays from the defense behind him. Jimmy Rohan collected his league-leading 100th hit of the year on a single in the first inning, and the All-Star infielder finished the night 3-for-6 with a two-run homerun (3) and three RBI. Sergio Pedroza also blasted his team-leading 10th homerun. [Full Game Recap]
