Game one of a three-game series

LAST GAME: The Salmon Kings earned their third consecutive win and wrapped up a two-game series versus Long Beach last week at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

It was just 23 seconds into the game when Victoria's Darryl Lloyd posted his ninth goal of the season with a breakaway backhander on Goaltender Mike Brown.

And 31 seconds into the second stanza, Kiel McLeod posted his 28th goal of the season on a Salmon Kings powerplay. Lingren assisted on the play, and then gave Victoria a three-goal lead under two minutes later with a wristshot from the high slot.

The Ice Dogs nabbed a goal in the third period when Mark Hurtubise found the open cage as Goaltender Bryan Bridges was recovering from a sprawling save. Jordan Krestanovich regained the Salmon Kings three-goal advantage, scooping up a mishandled puck for his second goal of the series. Bridges made 42 saves to tie his pro career best 0.977 save percentage.

Victoria 4-1

LAST GAME vs UTAH: The Salmon Kings and Grizzlies spent a Sunday scrimmage battling for rights to the three-game series, after Victoria had nabbed the Thursday win and Utah snuck away with the Saturday night victory at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the first period as James Sanford notched a powerplay goal.

The Salmon Kings started a four unanswered goal streak in the second period. Steve Lingren pinched on the powerplay and finished a feed from Marc-Andre Bernier, and Ryan Wade tallied a shorthanded goal in a 2-on-1 rush with Wes Goldie.

With under three and a half minutes remaining in the final frame, Victoria secured the win with two goals from Defenseman Matt Kelly and shifty forward Milan Gajic.
