Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings Wednesday night in front of 3,202 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Leading the way for the Wranglers in his first game of 2011 was left winger Blair Riley with two goals and one assist. Gregg Collins, Eddie DelGrosso, and new addition Chris Higgins also scored for Las Vegas in the win. Ryan Huddy also notched two assists in the win and finds himself on a nine-game point streak.

Ryan MacMurchy, Ryan Cleaver, and Matt Siddall all tallied for the Salmons Kings in the loss. Joe Fallon earned back-to-back wins the last two nights in Victoria and improves his record to 9-6-1. Chris Beckford-Tseu takes the loss for the Kings and falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Wranglers had a strong showing from the special teams unit going 1-4 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill. Las Vegas also tallied a shorthanded goal and empty-netter completing the special teams tri-fecta. For the first time in 2011 the Wranglers outshot their opponent holding the Kings to 22 shots while firing 26 of their own. With the loss the Salmon Kings slide to 14-20-3 and are now riding a three-game losing streak. The win propels Las Vegas to 20-9-3 overall, 11-5-2 on the road, and 6-1 against Victoria. Las Vegas holds the top spot in the Pacific division with 43 total points and a six-point buffer over Bakersfield.

The story of this battle would be the back and forth exchanging of goals all the way until the third period when the Wranglers took over. Matt Siddall scored his seventeenth goal of the season with no help at 7:30 of the first period to give the Salmon Kings an early lead. The Wranglers tied the game at 13:00 while on the power play with Eddie DelGrosso's first goal of the season assisted by Colin Long and Ryan Huddy. Only two goals were notched in the first period as both teams headed to the intermission with seven shots apiece.

Victoria would continue the trend and take the lead back at 4:46 of the second period when Ryan Cleaver beat Joe Fallon assisted by Michael Wilson and Tim Kraus. Las Vegas would tie the game again at 8:39 when Blair Riley scored the Wranglers' second short-handed goal of the season unassisted. Ryan MacMurchy took the lead back once again for the Salmon Kings at 15:56 assisted by Ryan Cleaver and Derick Martin. After two periods Las Vegas was trailing 3-2 but the pattern of trading goals back and forth would not last into the third frame.

Blair Riley tied the game with his second goal of the night at 12:30 of the third period assisted by Blake Gallagher and Ryan Huddy. Las Vegas would take the lead for good at 17:08 of the third period with Greg Collins' seventh goal of the season assisted by Geoff Paukovich and Blair Riley. The Wranglers would tally one more goal at 19:26, an empty-netter, from newest addition Chris Higgins, his first goal of the season, taking the win 5-3.

With the win the Wranglers wrap up their first serious road trip of 2011 on a positive note. The Wranglers have not been home since the midnight game on December 27th. Las Vegas has been a solid road team this year going 11-5-2 overall and 5-2 on their last stint.

The Wranglers now head home to kickoff a seven-game home stretch starting this Friday when they host the Ontario Reign.
