Chicago Dogs News Release
Rosemont, Ill. - Canaries starter Dylan Thompson twirled eight shutout innings of two hit ball, and the Sioux Falls canaries defeated the Chicago Dogs 7-1 in the opening game of a three-game set Monday night at Impact Field.
Sioux Falls built an early 2-0 lead against Chicagos starter Kylin Turnbull in the top of the second. The two runs came via an RBI triple by Maxx Garrett and an RBI fielder's choice from Dan Motl.
The Dogs bats were quiet for the first three innings managing just one hit-a single by designated hitter Craig Maddox.
Shortly after, in the top of the fourth, Burt Reynolds led off the inning with a solo home run to deep center field to extend the Canaries lead to 3-0.
With the Dogs bats still quiet, in the top of the fifth, Turnbull's struggles continued. Sioux Falls scored twice more against the Chicago southpaw via a wild pitch and a Burt Reynolds RBI single.
The second run-scoring hit of the game from Reynolds chased Turnbull, and saw Tyler Frohwirth come on in relief for the Dogs. Frohwirth would allow another Sioux Falls run to come across leaving the score at 7-0 Canaries.
Turnbull's final line registered four and two-thirds innings of six run ball in a losing effort.
Garrett collected three extra-base hits and two RBI for Sioux Falls in just his fourth start of the year behind the plate.
With Chicago down to their final strike of the night in the top of the ninth, Treysen Vavra extended his season long hit streak to 16 games with a solo home run-his fourth of the year-accounting for the lone Dogs tally of the game.
The two teams will play game two of the three-game series with a 7:05 first pitch from Impact Field on Tuesday night. Scott Barnes will make the start for the Dogs.
The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts with the Crowne Plaza Pregame Show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
