Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Patrick Palmeiro's RBI single in the 7th inning was Cleburne's first hit of the game, and the Railroaders squeezed out a 1-0 win over the St. Paul Saints in the series finale at The Depot on Sunday afternoon.
St. Paul (10-6) starter Matt Solter carried a perfect game into the 7th before K.C. Huth broke it up with a leadoff walk. Cameron Monger then laid down a sacrifice bunt before Palmeiro's two-out single broke up both the no-hitter and shutout.
It was the second 1-0 win in franchise history - the other came in a seven-inning game against the Salina Stockade on June 6, 2017 - and St. Paul stranded 13 runners on base, including three innings in which the bases were left loaded.
Cleburne had three hits in the game, and Axel Johnson had Cleburne's lone extra-base hit. Solter gave up the one run over 7.2 innings of work, while Railroaders starter Michael Gunn went five scoreless in a spot start to allow Patrick Mincey an extra day of rest.
The Cleburne bullpen combined for four scoreless innings, and Josh Hodges made his 2018 debut with a 1-2-3 6th inning. Will Mathis retired a pair of Saints and Shawn Blackwell turned in 1.1 innings before Tyler Wilson notched his first save of 2018 with a scoreless 9th.
The win was the second in 2018 in which Cleburne did not trail at any point in the game, and the Railroaders have taken two of three from each of their first three home series.
The homestand continues on Monday when the Railroaders begin a three-game set with the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch time is 7:06 p.m., and Mincey will make his fourth start of the season. The Sioux City pitcher has not yet been announced.
Monday Madness also returns to the depot tomorrow night. Get berm seats for five dollars and one-dollar hot dogs all night at The Depot. Tickets are still available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
