
RailCats Sign RHP Jeremy Holcombe

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats signed right-handed pitcher Jeremy Holcombe before Monday's series opener vs. the Winnipeg Goldeyes. 2018 marks Holcombe's fourth season of professional baseball and first in the American Association.
Holcombe went 8-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) last season with the Westside Woolly Mammoths of the United Shore Baseball League. The right-hander finished with a team-high 102 innings pitched and was second on the team with 84 strikeouts.
Holcombe finished without a record and a combined 11.81 ERA in three relief appearances with the Normal CornBelters and Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League in 2016. In 5.1 innings, Holcombe allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.
Holcombe began his professional baseball career in 2015 with the Wild Things, going 1-4 with a 5.15 ERA in 13 games (six starts). In 36.2 innings, the right-hander struck out 22 and allowed just 35 hits and 15 walks.
As a senior in 2014 at Faulkner University, Holcombe finished 10-4 with a 2.51 ERA in a team-high-tying 20 games (16 starts). Holcombe held opponents to a .207 batting average and was second on the team with 104 innings pitched and 89 strikeouts.
The RailCats resume their 10-game homestand vs. the reigning champion Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night at 7:10. LHP Jeff McKenzie (1-0, 8.00) opposes Goldeyes' All-Star LHP Kevin McGovern (1-1, 3.18) in the first meeting of the season between the two teams
Monday's game is another All You Can Eat Night and Metro PCS Monday and is also Sport Your Colors Day. Any kid who wears their youth baseball, softball or team sport jersey receives a free ticket to the game while All You Can Eat $10 wristbands for hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts can be purchased at the front window and the concessions stands before and during the game.
