Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - Led by the big bats of 1B Kevin Patterson and LF Steve McQuail, the surging Vancouver Canadians made it four straight wins over the Tri-City Dust Devils with a convincing 9-4 victory in front of a sellout crowd at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The red hot Patterson, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, went 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and run scored. McQuail, meanwhile, hit his 12th home run of the summer in the bottom of the 7th inning and had two hits.
The night belonged to the C's offense as Vancouver pounded out 13 hits off of Dust Devils pitching, including a double, home run, and two triples. The C's scored at least a run in seven of the first eight innings and won this game going away, while starter RHP Ben White (5 IP, 1 H) shut the door on the Tri-City bats.
With the score 2-1 in the top of the 3rd inning, the Dust Devils loaded the bases with two outs, including LF Tyler Massey's single which extended his hitting streak to 16 games, but RHP Ben White retired 1B Jordan Ribera on a ground ball to first base to end the threat.
The C's responded to White's clutch pitching with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, with the big blow DH Shane Opitz's RBI doubled that cashed in 1B Kevin Patterson.
Vancouver made it 5-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning when RF Jared Simon lost a flyball hit by 1B Kevin Patterson in right field for what was ruled a triple, scoring 2B Jon Berti.
SS Andy Burns got into the act in the bottom of the 6th inning when he burned the Dust Devils with an RBI triple, plating a hustling DH Shane Opitz for a 6-1 lead. A wild pitch later that inning allowed Burns to score.
This five-game series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. with A&W Family Fun Sunday where fans can purchase root beer floats for $1 and the first 500 fans to enter Scotiabank Field will receive a free umbrella. Gates open at noon. RHP Aaron Sanchez is expected to start for the C's as they try to complete the sweep.
