Frogs Fall Back into Tie for First
August 27, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (18-13, 34-35) lost their fourth straight game to the Yakima Bears (16-15, 29-40) by a score of 9-3, dropping the Sox in to a tie for the West Division lead with Eugene after holding a four game lead earlier in the week.
The Bears recorded 19 hits in the game, a new season high while also tying the most the Everett staff has given up in a game this season. Each player in the Yakima lineup notched a hit while first baseman Jimmy Comerota and second baseman Garrett Weber both recorded four hits, with Weber racking up four RBI.
Yakima scored a run in each of the first four innings, and have scored first in all three games thus far in the series to improve their record when scoring first to 16-19, but still hold the worst record in the league.
The Frogs battled back with three runs in the fourth and fifth combined, but Yakima blew open the game with five runs in the final three innings while the Sox remained scoreless after the fifth. The Sox have lost 25 of the 31 games in which they have trailed after five innings this season.
The loss not only brings Everett into a tie for first in the West with Eugene but also puts the Sox three games back of Vancouver in overall record, which would come into play if the Emeralds won the second half crown. The Frogs will look to halt the four game skid as they send out right-hander Jordan Pries (4-2, 3.26 ERA) against Yakima righty Alex Capaul (2-2, 3.45 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
