The Kelowna Rockets had their six-game win streak snapped on Sunday evening with a 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Giants at Propers Place in Kelowna, BC.
Max Graham and Colton Dach pulled the Rockets within one goal twice, but it wasn't enough as the Giants pushed past the Rockets for two much-needed points in their race to secure one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference.
Jari Kykkanen made 22 saves on 25 shots for the Rockets, while 15-year-old affiliate goaltender Matthew Hutchison stopped 27 of 29 to pick up his first WHL victory.
After a scoreless first period, Adam Hall (17) and Zack Ostapchuk (24) found the back of the net under a minute apart early in the second. Max Graham (10) broke a 15 game goalless drought to get the Rockets on the board and pull them within one. Evan Toth (5) responded for the Giants under a minute later to re-establish the two-goal lead.
Midway through the third Colton Dach (28) made it a one-goal game again.
Kelowna was zero-for-four on the power play, while the Giants were zero-for-three.
The Rockets outshot the Giants 29-25.
The Rockets will face the Giants again on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC. You can watch the game on CHL TV or listen on AM1150.
Kelowna will wrap up their regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 16th against the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place. Tickets for all Rockets games are available at selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
