Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen returned home for their final regular season match up with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Edmonton came out with the victory with a score of 4-1.
Calgary struck first with Zac Funk finding the back of the net early in the first period. Jake Neighbours followed up to tie the game for Edmonton, heading into to the second. It didn't take long for Edmonton to take the lead, with Justin Sourdif netting the go ahead goal just under a minute into the period. Jaxson Wiebe tallied the third Edmonton goal at 8:41 putting the visitors up by two. Multiple chances and power play opportunities proved unsuccessful, as Calgary was unable to put one past Edmonton net minder Sebastian Cossa. With Ethan Buenaventura on the bench, Dylan Guenther found the empty net, securing the win for Edmonton.
Buenaventura had a solid performance making 37 saves, earning him first star of the game. Calgary currently sits one point back from the eighth and final playoff spot behind Swift Current, with two regular season games left to play.
Calgary is back in the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, April 13 to welcome the Red Deer Rebels in a 7:00 p.m. start. Calgary will then conclude their 68-game schedule on Sunday, April 17 at home against Lethbridge at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's game will be preceded by the annual on-ice team awards.
