Vancouver Giants Shutout the Prince George Cougars 3-0

Mark Segal made 30 saves for his 4th shutout of the season as the Vancouver Giants defeated the Prince George Cougars 3-0 Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. With the victory Vancouver has won 7 of their last 9 games to maintain top spot in B.C. division standings, one point ahead of the Kelowna Rockets.

The Giants came out firing in the first period, but could not find a way to solve James Priestner. Spencer Bennett hit the post while Greg Lamoureux and Matt Bellerive were denied on the door step. Priestner made 11 saves and Segal made 12 stops to leave the game scoreless through 20 minutes.

Taking advantage of an early power play in the second period Vancouver got on the board as Darren Bestland's point shot found the back of the net. His 6th of the season to put the Giants up 1-0 through two periods. Spencer Bennett picked up an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games.

In search of an insurance marker in the third it finally came courtesy of Matt Bellerive. The 16 year old snapped home his 4th of the season to put the home team up 2-0. Nathan Burns would add an another to make it a 3 goal game. Segal was solid the entire night, stopping all 30 shots fired his way to earn the shutout and his 16th win of the season.

Vancouver continues its busy weekend tomorrow night in Kamloops as they hit the road to take on the Blazers. Game time is 7:00pm. The pregame show starts at 6:30pm on AM 650.
