Vancouver Defeats Kamloops 3-0

Mark Segal made 31 saves for his 2nd shutout of the season, backstopping the Vancouver Giants to a 3-0 win over the Kamloops Blazers Tuesday night in front of 5,481 fans at the Pacific Coliseum

Prior to the start of the game, head coach Don Hay was recognized for being the 4th coach in WHL history to win 500 games and former captain Brett Festerling was the inaugural inductee into the Vancouver Giants Ring of Honour. The Giants opend the scoring in the first courtesy of the birthday boy. Celebrating his 16th birthday, Matt Bellerive banged home a James Henry rebound for his 3rd goal of the year to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

The Giants continued to press in the second as Brendan Rowinski finished off a nice passing play from Brendan Gallagher and Neil Manning for his 4th of the season on the power play to put Vancouver in front 2-0 through two periods.

Having hit every piece of the post over the last couple of games, Matt MacKay finally found the mesh, snapping home his 10th of the year to put the Giants up 3-0. Henry picked up his 2nd assist of the night, while Segal also added a helper on the goal. However, Segal's best work was done in his own crease as he made 31 saves, including a spectacular diving glove save in the 2nd period to earn his 2nd shutout of the year.

With the win and a Prince George loss tonight, the Giants move back into first in the B.C. Division, one point up on the Cougars. Vancouver is back in action this Friday when they welcome the Spokane Chiefs to town on 'Teddy Bear Toss' night. Fans are encouraged to bring their own stuffed toys or buy them at the game for $5.00. All bears/stuffed animals will be donated to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. Game time is 7:30pm. The pregame show begins at 7:00pm on AM 650.
