Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Calgary, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St. Croix tallied four points for the second straight game, including a hat-trick, to lead his team to a dominant 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
St. Croix scored the first hat-trick on the road in the modern history of the Oil Kings franchise and added an assist to pace Edmonton to the win over Calgary. His four-point effort on Wednesday came just one game after he scored twice and added two assists as the Oil Kings beat Brandon 8-4 on Friday.
The sophomore sniper now has a remarkable 17 points in his last six games to give him 18 goals and 20 assists on the season. Not surprisingly, the Oil Kings have thrived during St. Croix's hot streak, as they improved their record to 6-1-0-1 in their last eight games and 13-14-0-2 overall on the season.
Not to be outdone on Wednesday were St. Croix's linemate T.J. Foster, who chipped in with one goal and two assists, as well as Oil Kings goalie Jon Groenheyde, who turned aside 24 shots to earn the victory and improve to 5-3-0-1 since joining the team. Marek Hrbas scored the Oil Kings' other goal and added an assist against Calgary, while Josh Lazowski also had two points with a pair of assists.
The Oil Kings are back home at Rexall Place on Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets at 7 p.m., as it's Kids Eat Free Night, with all kids 12 and under receiving a free hot dog, fries and pop. Saturday's game starts a stretch of four home games in six nights that includes the Regina Pats on Monday, Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday and Chilliwack Bruins on Friday.
The Friday, Dec. 17 game against the Bruins is the Oil Kings' much-anticipated Toyota Teddy Bear Toss game. For one night only, all tickets are just $10 and when the Oil Kings score their first goal that night, fans can throw the new teddy bears they brought to the game onto the ice. The bears will then be collected and donated to 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.
