Vancouver Canadians News Release
EVERETT, WA - A crooked number bent the Vancouver Canadians out of shape Thursday night in a 7-4 loss to the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) at Funko Field.
After Everett plated an early run in the second, the C's rallied to tie it in the fourth. Damiano Palmegiani singled to lead off the inning, went to second on a ground out and scored when Miguel Hiraldo laced a base hit up the middle.
Vancouver led for all of a half inning after Steward Berroa clubbed a solo homer in the fifth to make it 2-1, but a four-run frame for the Frogs in the home half of the inning proved to be the difference. An error opened the stanza then big league rehabber Kyle Lewis - the 2020 American League Rookie of the Year who hit his first professional homer in Everett six years ago - took Canadians starter Chad Dallas (L, 1-5) deep to put the AquaSox in front for good, but they went on to add a single and a two-run home run to go in front 5-2.
Despite the four-spot, Vancouver struck for two runs in the next half inning to pull within a single score. Palmegiani singled and Tyler Keenan doubled to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out then a wild pitch on ball four later in the inning brought home a run. Hugo Cardona was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Glenn Santiago was plunked three pitches later to force home the fourth C's tally.
The AquaSox used three singles, a walk and a wild pitch to score two big insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach before the Canadians mustered just seven batters in the final two innings to lose 7-4.
Zach Britton and Palmegiani led the offense with two hits apiece. Naswell Paulino and Will McAffer both recorded scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts apiece.
With the loss, the C's have now dropped two straight and are 5-6 against the Frogs this season. They'll look to even the series and the season set tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. when top Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann climbs the slope opposite Everett's Jimmy Joyce.
