Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
ABERDEEN, MD-The Tri-City ValleyCats slid past the Aberdeen IronBirds 5-4 thanks to the solid pitching of Raymar Diaz and a timely four-run seventh inning. Diaz pitched six innings of one-run ball and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.
Diaz walked two and faced the minimum through the first four innings. Morgan Clendinin smacked a solo home run over the right-field wall to give the IronBirds a 1-0 lead. Francisco Carballo tied the game with a solo shot of his own in the sixth off Aberdeen reliever Trent Baysinger.
In the seventh inning, Baysinger started to lose his command and the ValleyCats capitalized. Drew Sutton and Jonny Ash walked. Aberdeen manager Don Buford lifted Baysinger for Wilken Felix. The young Dominican Republic native suffered the same fate. Felix walked James Cooper and then gave up three straight singles. Four runs came in and the ValleyCats had a 5-1 lead.
Chad Reineke came into the game and surrendered a few runs in the eight inning before Rodrigo Escobar pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save.
The ValleyCats continue their series with the IronBirds tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:05 and coverage begins at 6:45 on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
