New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) announced numerous roster changes this afternoon. Chris Patrick, Steve Sherman and Sean Dobson have all been promoted to the Peoria Chiefs, the Class A Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Jose Delgado, Brandon Yarbrough, Michael Sillman and Bo Dickerson will all join the NJ Cards from Johnson City.
Patrick, the Cardinals second baseman, currently ranks 2nd in the New York Penn League with a .325 batting average, and since July 22 he is batting .351. Sherman, the Cardinals right fielder, batted .263, hit 3 home runs and drove in 27 runs, while Dobson, the Cardinals center fielder, hit .269 and stole 11 bases before the call-up.
But the players replacing the departed Cardinals are certainly no slouches. Delgado, a switch-hitting infielder, hit .282 with a .434 on-base percentage while legging out 5 triples, driving in 28 runs and stealing 17 bases for Johnson City. Yarbrough, a catcher, batted .329 with a .409 on-base percentage, popped 6 home runs and recorded 33 RBI in 47 games. Sillman, a relief pitcher, is making his second tour of duty with New Jersey. In Johnson City, he went 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA in 6 appearances, and earlier this season with New Jersey he picked up 2 saves and had a 1.35 ERA in 15 games.
The Cardinals are back in action tonight when they take on the Vermont Expos (Montreal Expos) in the opening game of a 6-game home stand. KFC and the New Jersey Herald sponsor Kids Eat Free.
