New York Boulders News Release

Josh Hiatt pitched into the seventh inning and Nelson Molina drove in two runs with a second inning triple as the Tri-City Valley Cats salvaged a split of their doubleheader with the New York Boulders, taking the second game 3-2 on Wednesday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY.

Hiatt's bid for a seven-inning shutout was lost when Ray Hernandez and Ryan Ramiz led off the final inning with successive solo home runs to get the Boulders within a run. The home run was the eighth of the year for Hernandez and the second of the season for Ramiz.

Trey Cochran-Gill relieved Hiatt and survived a bases loaded, one-out jam to secure his 11th save of the season.

Hiatt allowed six hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter in winning for the third time this season against one loss.

The Valley Cats scored all of their runs in the second inning on Molina's triple and a single by Juan Silverio.

Brandon Bingel was tagged with the loss for New York, falling to 0-2 on the year.

In the opening game, Andy Hammond went the distance to pick up the win for the Boulders, who broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning on their way to an 8-5 victory.

Tied at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, New York went ahead when Gian Martellini was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded by Valley Cats' starter Parker Kelly. The Boulders then got a sacrifice fly by Zach Penprase, a two-run triple by Milton Smith, Jr. and an RBI single from Jack Sundberg that gave New York a 6-1 advantage.

Zach Kirtley capped off the inning's scoring with a two-run opposite field home run to right field, his fifth round-tripper of the season.

Tri-City picked up a second inning solo home run by Brad Zunica, his second of the year, as well as a seventh inning two-run shot by Phil Caufield, his first of the season.

Hammond allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out six in picking up his second win of the season against one loss. Meanwhile, Kelly dropped to 3-4 on the year with the loss.
