
ValleyCats Issue Three Homers to Capitales in Series Defeat

QUÉBEC, CANADA - The Tri-City ValleyCats (48-32) dropped the rubber game 9-5 to the Québec Capitales (51-29) on Thursday at Stade Canac.
Jakob Goldfarb opened the game with a solo homer off Abdiel Saldana. His 13th long ball of the season provided the ValleyCats with a 1-0 lead.
Québec responded in the bottom of the first. Ruben Castro greeted Dan Beebe with a single. T.J. White replaced Castro at first base after reaching on a fielder's choice. Justin Gideon hit a two-run blast to give the Capitales a 2-1 advantage.
Québec picked up another roundtripper in the second. Marc-Antoine Lebreux had a solo home run to extend the Capitales' lead to 3-1.
White walked, and Gideon singled in the third. The two baserunners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch. Beebe uncorked a second wild pitch, and White scored, while Gideon went to third. Two batters later, David Glaude lifted a sac fly to pull Québec ahead, 5-1.
Elijah Gill issued a walk in the fourth to Lebreux, who proceeded to swipe second and third, before coming around on a wild pitch to put the Capitales on top, 6-1.
Tri-City retaliated in the fifth. Jaxon Hallmark doubled, and moved to third on an infield single from Connor Bagnieski. Cito Culver singled in Hallmark to trim the deficit to 6-2.
Gideon began the bottom of the fifth with a single. Juremi Profar followed suit with a two-run jack to make it a 8-2 game.
Tri-City clawed back in the sixth. Aaron Altherr singled, and Ian Walters walked. Robbie Merced pinch-ran for Walters, and Lamar Briggs loaded the bases after reaching on an error from Glaude. Pavin Parks laced a two-run double off Kyle Mott. Afterward, Briggs was brought in on a wild pitch, which cut the deficit to 8-5.
Québec added an insurance run in the eighth. Greg Veliz issued singles to Castro and White. Veliz tried to pick off Castro at second base but threw the ball away, which allowed him to score, and make it a 9-5 affair.
Saldana (5-2) earned the win. He tossed five frames, giving up five runs, four earned on seven hits, walking one, and striking out three.
Beebe (5-4) received the loss. He pitched three innings, yielding five runs on five hits, walking one, and striking out three.
The ValleyCats take on the Sussex County Miners at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium tomorrow, Friday, August 18. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
