ValleyCats Give up Lead, Drop Series at Washington

July 31, 2021 - Frontier League (FL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - Despite holding the lead for the first six-and-a-half innings of the game, the Tri-City ValleyCats (28-29) could not fend off a late-inning comeback attempt from the Washington Wild Things (30-27) Saturday evening at Wild Things Park. The Wild Things closed out a 6-2 victory and the weekend series with a crooked frame in the eighth.

Working behind five one-run innings from recent Tri-City signee Bruce Bell, the 'Cats got on the board with an RBI double from Juan Silverio and a sacrifice ground out from Luis Roman. A solo home run put the home team on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

Following Bell's exit from the game, Washington's offense kicked into gear in the latter innings, tying the contest at 2 in the seventh and putting up a crooked frame with four runs in the eighth. Right-gander Ben Vicini carried the home team along with four strikeouts in six and one third innings, while James Meeker got the win in relief. Tri-City's Patrick Murphy took the loss after surrendering two runs in two hits in just two-thirds of an inning. Nelson Molina and Oscar Campos each had multi-hit games to lead the 'Cats offensively.

Following back-to-back road losses in its first ever trip to Wild Things Park, the ValleyCats will look to salvage a game on the weekend on Sunday at 5:35 PM. The 'Cats will return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium to host the Sussex County Miners next weekend. First pitch on Friday, August 6 is set for 7:00 PM. Click Here for tickets.
