Florence Y'alls News Release
AVON, Ohio - An evening of home runs puts the Lake Erie Crushers over the Florence Y'alls to tie the weekend series as three Crusher charged the team to a 7-2 victory.
Trevor Achenbach, Karl Ellison, and Eric Callahan all hit balls that left the park. While the offense from the Crushers excelled Saturday night, Lake Erie's righty put up a phenomenal show.
In Sam Curtis's first start of the 2021 season, a guy who has made appearances only from the bullpen this year, he threw a hitless six innings to take the win. Curtis put up six strike outs and pitched four consecutive 1-2-3 innings. Relief pitcher Taylor Sugg came in to end the game, combining with Curtis to put up 10 total strikeouts against the Y'alls.
Y'alls designated hitter Jose Brizuela broke the no-hit bid in the sixth inning with a single. With Trevor Craport at third and Brizuela at first, DiNicola hit an RBI sacrifice fly to bring Craport home. The next man at bat, Jordan Brower, hit an RBI single to score Brizuela.
Florence's starting pitcher Jonaiker Villalobos pitched six innings, allowing all seven Crusher runs and only striking out the very first batter of the game. That was Villalobos's third loss of the season. Jared Cheek came in as relief and only threw a total of three balls in 17 pitches during his two-inning appearance.
The Y'alls will spend one more day, Sunday, at Mercy Health Stadium looking to win the series against the Crushers. Game time is 2:05 PM ET.
