Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
Troy, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats continue to find new ways to win ballgames. The 'Cats are now a smoking-hot 9-2 after a 13-2 win over the Batavia Muckdogs before 3,158 at Jospeh L. Bruno Stadium. The'Cats sweep the three game series with the win and go 4-2 on their first home stand of the year. The offense started early for the ValleyCats with a six run, ten batter second inning. Mario Garza doubled and then went to third on a single by Francisco Caraballo.
Two runners were in scoring position for Brandon Averill, who was plunked on a pitch by starter Derek Griffith. Both Garza and Caraballo were on base for Chris Clark, who ripped a two-run double. Averill went to third on the double and came around to score on a base hit by Edgar Babilonia. The base hit pushed Clark up to third base and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Luke Barganier. Both Babilonia and Drew Sutton, who had yet to come up to the plate at that point, came around to round out the scoring at 6-0.
The ValleyCats would add another run in the third inning when Brandon Averill got his first professional hit and RBI with a double that brought home Caraballo to make it 7-0.
With Batavia tacking on a run in their half of the fifth inning, the ValleyCats wasted no time scoring two more runs. Mario Garza led off first base thanks to a leadoff single and with two outs Chris Clark hit a home run over the left field wall to make it 9-1 in favor of the home team. Garza responded with a home run of his own, a drive hit into the ValleyCats bullpen down the leftfield line that tacked three more runs on the board to make it 12-1.
Samuel Orr hit a solo home run off ValleyCats reliever Bo Edmiston, Jr. in the eighth inning to round out the scoring at 13-2. Twelve ValleyCats reached base against Batavia pitching. Ronnie Martinez improves to 2-1 with the win. Derek Griffith falls to 0-1 with the loss. The ValleyCats take off for a brief two game series with the Vermont Expos in Burlington, VT. Evan Englebrook gets the start tomorrow night, while Raymar Diaz will go on Wednesday.
