New York Boulders News Release
Pavin Parks' eighth inning sacrifice fly provided the host Tri-City Valley Cats with what would prove to be the winning run as they defeated the New York Boulders, 6-5, on Wednesday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY.
The game was knotted at 5-5 through 7 ý innings when, in the home eighth, Jace Mercer led off with a walk off Boulders' reliever Ryan Munoz. One out later, Tyler Krabbe lashed a double down the left field line that put runners on second and third for Parks, who lifted a sacrifice fly to right that plated Mercer with the lead run.
Munoz would then strike out Brantley Bell to end the inning.
Trey Cochran-Gill, the seventh pitcher used by the Valley Cats in the game, twirled a scoreless ninth inning to lock down the win for Tri-City and record his eighth save of the season.
Adam Hofacket got the win for the Valley Cats after tossing a scoreless eighth inning to improve to 7-3 on the year.
Munoz, who had not surrendered a run over his first 11 appearances and 14 1/3 innings, was tagged with the loss as he fell to 1-1 on the season.
Tri-City had raced out to a 5-1 advantage through four innings. In the first, Denis Phipps' two-run home run, his 16th long ball of the season, staked the Valley Cats to a 2-0 lead. Later in that inning, an RBI double by Juan Silverio made it a 3-0 game.
Tri-City increased their advantage to 4-0 in the third inning on a run-scoring triple off the bat of Mercer.
New York got one run back in the fourth on an RBI double by Giovanni Garbella. However, the Valley Cats answered with an unearned run in the home half of the fourth, Parks scoring on a misplay by Boulders' shortstop Austin Dennis.
Jake MacKenzie's two-run home run, his ninth of the year, brought New York back to within two runs at 5-3 in the fifth; then, in the sixth, Gabriel Garcia's solo home run, his sixth of the year and the fourth straight game that he went yard, made it 5-4 before a Dennis sacrifice fly leveled the scoreboard at 5-5.
