Florence Y'alls News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Florence Y'alls took an early lead at Ozinga Field Wednesday morning in search of the team's fourth consecutive win, but Windy City scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a lead it would hold for the remainder of the game in an 8-4 ThunderBolts win.

Down 2-1 going to the home half of the fourth, back-to-back hits to start the inning from Bren Spillane and Brian Fuentes put the ThunderBolts in business. Spillane would eventually score on a fielder's choice ground out by Brynn Martinez, and All-Star Joshuan Sandoval drove home Fuentes on an RBI double one batter later. Matt Morgan put the finishing touches on the inning with a two-run home run, his first in a ThunderBolts uniform.

The Y'alls (20-32) stayed close and pulled within a pair of runs in the sixth inning. One run scored on a throwing error at second base with Windy City trying for an inning-ending double play. Brennan Price drove in the other on a sacrifice fly to pull the Y'alls within a 6-4 score.

Windy City (21-30) put an end to the comeback bid with a few late runs, one on a Jake Boone RBI single and another on a Daryl Myers home run, his second of the day and the second time in three games he has hit two home runs. Cal Djuraskovic, Daniel Kight, and Layne Schnitz-Paxton kept the Y'alls off the board over the final three innings.

For the second consecutive game, the Y'alls took an early first inning lead. Ray Zuberer III started the ballgame with a double again, and he came around to score on a Price groundout. Anthony Brocato also had an RBI single in the inning. Florence left the bases loaded in the first and stranded 12 runners on base in total.

Miguel Ausua earns his second win of the season against the Y'alls, his only two wins of the season. The southpaw pitched four consecutive scoreless innings after the first inning trouble and struck out eight batters in total. Jeremy Ovalle falls to 0-2 after allowing six earned runs over five-plus innings. The righty struck out three.

The loss ends Florence's three-game winning streak, though they are still 5-2 against the ThunderBolts this year and have a chance to win the series tomorrow, Thursday, July 14. The two team will play a morning-night doubleheader at Ozinga Field. Game One starts at 11 AM CDT, and the nightcap will get underway at 7:05 PM CDT.
