Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Daryl Myers homered twice for the second time in the last three days as the ThunderBolts avenged a Tuesday defeat by knocking off the Florence Y'alls 8-4 at Ozinga Field Wednesday afternoon.
For the second straight day, the Y'alls (20-32) put the ThunderBolts (21-30) in an early hole. RBIs for Brennan Price and Anthony Brocato made it 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
The Bolts got on the board in the bottom of that inning as Daryl Myers homered on Jeremy Ovalle's first pitch of the game.
The 2-1 score held until the bottom of the fourth, when Windy City scored four runs and took the lead for good. Brynn Martinez tied the score on an RBI groundout and Joshuan Sandoval moved the Bolts ahead with an RBI double. Matt Morgan's two-run homer extended the lead to 5-2.
In the sixth inning, Dan Robinson extended his hit streak to 17 games with an RBI infield single.
Florence tightened things with a pair of scores in the top of the sixth that made it 6-4 but the ThunderBolts added insurance thanks to a Jake Boone RBI single in the seventh and Myers's second long ball, a solo shot, in the eighth.
Miguel Ausua (2-4)pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs, striking out eight in the winning effort. Ovalle (0-2) was saddled with the loss as he allowed six runs over his five-plus innings on the mound.
Thursday will feature a day/night doubleheader as the Bolts and Y'alls conclude their series. First pitch for Big Splash Day III is scheduled for 10:35 CDT. Bryan Ketchie (3-4, 5.59) starts for the ThunderBolts against Florence's Alex Wagner (1-1, 7.02). Tyler Thornton (2-5, 8.59) gets the game two call at 7:05 and will be opposed by Jonaiker Villalobos (4-5, 5.13). Both game broadcasts can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
