Calgary Vipers News Release

Backed by a terrific pitching performance the Calgary Vipers (41-24) shutout the Lake County Fielders (27-32) 4-0 in the first half of a double-header featuring two seven innings games at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. Edward Valdez (5-3) got the start for Calgary and tossed six scoreless innings while allowing only three hits, not walking a batter, and striking out six. Scott Watson took over for the final scoreless inning which included a strikeout while Trenton Lee (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing two runs in five innings. The Vipers offence was supplied by a couple of two-out rallies in the fourth and fifth innings along with a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. With the win Calgary increases their lead atop the North Division to two games.

Calgary opened the scoring in the fourth inning with two outs as Chad Ehrnsberger walked, Lino Garcia singled, and Drew Miller drove in a run with a base hit for a 1-0 lead.

The Vipers doubled their lead to 2-0 in the fifth as with two outs Wilver Perez walked, stole second base, and scored on a Jimmy Rohan run batted in single.

In the seventh frame Calgary added to the lead when Bryan Burke singled and stole second base followed by back-to-back RBI doubles from Jonny Kaplan and Perez for a 4-0 advantage.
