Edmonton Capitals News Release

Wailuku, HI - The Edmonton Capitals faced off against Maui Na Koa Ikaika in game two of a nine-game road series at Maehara Stadium on Wednesday night and came away with an 8-2 victory, extending their current winning streak to seven games.

The Caps offence came on strong in the third inning as they managed to score six of their eight runs. The only other offence came in the ninth as some Maui errors led to two unearned runs for the Caps to give them their eight run total. Shortstop Rex Rundgren, second baseman Matt Rogelstad and left fielder Todd Linden provided most of Edmonton's offence as they each had a pair of RBI. Linden hit a home run and now has three longballs in his last three games.

A strong performance by Caps pitchers once again proved to be a deciding factor on Wednesday night. Dallas Buck started on the mound for the Caps and pitched a dominant six innings, surrendering only five hits and one run. Reliever Jorge Vasquez also had a solid night with three innings pitched as he gave up one hit and racked up three strikeouts.

With their seventh consecutive victory in the books, the Caps improved their North American League record to 38-25 as they remain 1.5 games back of the first-place Calgary Vipers, who are at 40-24 to lead the North Division. Maui currently sits in last place in the North with a 26-36 record.

The Caps and Na Koa Ikaika will battle it out again tonight at 11 p.m. MT in game three of their nine-game series that sees them play every day until next Tuesday, including a Sunday double-header. The Caps make their triumphant return home on Friday, August 12 to open a six-game series against Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions. The series opener is another Fireworks Friday presented by 92.5 JOE FM.
