San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas---After losing four of five to the WhiteWings, the Colts would take on the McAllen Thunder for the first of five games. It began the final leg of the three-team, 12 day, 14 game road trip. San Angelo, who has not had a lot of luck against McAllen lately, would have to hold off a late rally once again in 9-6 Colts win.
The Colts scored in the first on an RBI ground out by Daryl Jones to take a 1-0 lead. They would add two more in the second on an RBI single by Trey Carter and a ground out by Mark Ramos and it was 3-0 San Angelo. The Colts would add another pair of runs in the third on RBI singles by Landon Camp and Vic Ferrante to take a 5-0 lead. After Daryl Jones drove in his second run of the game in the fourth to make it 6-0, it looked like it would be a laugher.
The Thunder did not think it was funny though, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 6-2 and three in the bottom of the seventh on a Mike Goss (3) homer and McAllen was just down one 6-5. San Angelo took back a four run lead though with three of their own in the top of the eighth, two on a Cory Patton single that drove in two and the Colts were back on top by four 9-5. The Thunder would not go away though after Eric Eiland (8) lead off with a homer in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-6; Sean Kramer came on in the ninth.
Kramer had been beaten the last two times by the Thunder with dramatics in the ninth that lead two blown saves for losses. There would be more drama in the ninth, as the tying run came to the plate with one out, but Kramer got a force out and strike out to end it for his tenth save of the year, as the Colts hang on for the 9-6 win.
Thursday will be the Colts second double-header in three days. San Angelo will send out righty Sean Keeler (0-0, 21.60) against fellow right-hander Adrian Garza (2-2, 5.48) for McAllen in game one. In the second game it will be southpaw Kyle Boggio (0-0, 4.22) for the Colts against righty Luis Matamoros (0-1, 5.96) for the Thunder. The double dip will begin an hour earlier with the first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on 101.9 "The Fire".
