
Thunder Split Double Dip With Colts

EDINBURG, Texas---The McAllen Thunder split the double-header with the San Angelo Colts with an 11-4 loss and a 6-2 win Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Yaibel Tamayo got the Thunder (27-39) on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run off of Colts starter Sean Keeler.
San Angelo (41-24) responded with four runs in the top of the second, two runs in the top of the third, four in the top of the sixth, and one in the top of the seventh for an 11-2 lead.
Eric Eiland led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run. Antoin Gray, who reached after a hit-by-pitch, came into score on a fielding error by the San Angelo defense which made the score 11-4.
Sean Keeler (1-0) pitched a complete game for his first victory while allowing four runs, three earned, and striking out two.
In Game two, San Angelo (41-25) struck in the top of the second when Mark Ramos hit an RBI single that allowed Vic Ferrante to score from second for the 1-0 lead.
The Thunder (28-39) responded in the bottom of the second after Zach Mandelblatt hit a two-run home run giving them the 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Antoin Gray led off the inning with a solo home run extending the McAllen lead 3-1.
Another home run by Mandelblatt off of Colts starter Kyle Boggio (0-1) in the bottom of the fourth extended the Thunder's lead 5-1.
The Colts added a run in the top of the fifth. Mark Ramos led off with a single and then moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a single by Ronnie Gaines. Another wild pitch then allowed Ramos to score making it 5-2 McAllen.
Mike Goss then led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Wilson Batista drove in Goss from second with an RBI single that pushed the Thunder lead 6-2.
Luis Matamoros went four and two-third innings and allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six but received the no decision.
Quinn Bright (2-1) pitched the final two and a third innings and was perfect while striking out five for his second win of the season.
The Thunder and Colts will continue their series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
