Four Combine in Game 2 Shutout

Combining for 11 strikeouts, the Calgary Vipers (42-24) used four pitchers to shutout the Lake County Fielders (27-33) 3-0 in the back half of a double-header featuring two seven inning games at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. Making his first start of the season Chris Bodishbaugh got the ball rolling with three scoreless innings including three strikeouts while Saskatoon's Dan Morari (3-0) received the win after a scoreless inning with two punchouts. Mike Burns and Claudio Galva (17) finished off the game with nine retired consecutively including four strikeouts in two innings for Burns and two strikeouts in one inning for Galva with the save. Offensively the Vipers scored single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth handing the loss to Julio Medina (0-3) after he allowed two runs in five innings. With the win Calgary increases its lead atop the North Division to two and a half games.

Calgary opened the scoring at 1-0 in the top of the second inning when Louie Templeton walked and Justin Tellam doubled for a run batted in.

The Vipers added to the lead in the fifth frame as Jonny Kaplan doubled, Wilver Perez singled, and Kaplan scored when a double-play was hit into for a 2-0 advantage.

In the sixth Calgary scratched across another run when Tellam walked, Mike Burns and Kaplan singled to load the bases followed by Perez who knocked in a run with a base hit for a 3-0 lead.

The Vipers continue this series in Illinois against the Lake County Fielders on Friday August 5th at 6:00 PM MDT.

The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Friday August 12th at 6:30 to take on the Chico Outlaws.
