Utah Grizzlies sign ECHL's All-Time Top Scorer
September 21, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies have announced the signing of center Louis (*LOO-ee*) Dumont (*DOO-mawnt*), the ECHL's all-time leading scorer (820). He is also atop the ECHL's all-time leader board in assists (511), while playing in 706 career ECHL games, the second-most in league history.
*We are extremely excited to have Louis on our team. He is a good veteran leader in the locker room and has put up some tremendous point totals over the years,* said Grizzlies' Head Coach Jason Christie.
The Calgary, Alberta native spent the past two seasons with the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves, who recently suspended operations for the 2005-2006 season in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Last year, he tallied 66 points with 20 goals, leading the team in assists, power-play assists, power-play points, and game-winning goals.
*I did not have to be sold on coming to Utah. It is a beautiful place, and I can't wait to arrive,* said Dumont. *My cousin (Martin Sonnenberg) played for the Grizzlies last year and loved the entire experience.*
In 2002, Dumont led the ECHL in points (102) and assists (70). The center was also voted as a starter for the Southern Conference in the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game while playing for the Pensacola Ice Pilots. During the All-Star Weekend, the 5-foot-10 inch 180-pound center won the fastest skater competition, and after the season, he was named First Team All-ECHL.
In 2004, Dumont was given the ECHL's *Ironman Award* handed out by the Professional Hockey Players' Association. The Award goes to a player who has played in every game for their team during a season while contributing on both the offensive and defensive ends.
Dumont has attended two NHL training camps: Hartford Whalers (1993) and Montreal Canadians (1995). He and his wife, Hayley, have one daughter, Camille.
He is the fourth player to be signed by the Grizzlies this offseason. Two weeks ago, the team announced the signing of 2002-2003 ECHL goaltender of the year Alfie Michaud (*Mee-Shoh*), along with high-scoring center Jeff Miles and hard-working forward Kris Kasper.
The Grizzlies open the 2005-2006 regular season Friday, October 21 at the E-Center when they host Las Vegas. Group Party Packages are on sale by calling (801) 988-PUCK.
