Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The Bakersfield Condors announced the signings of forward Louis-Philippe Martin and defenseman Florian Iberer.
Martin, pictured left, enters his first season as a professional after four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Martin's four years were productive, as he averaged over a point per game during his major junior career. In 2002-03, he helped Baie-Comeau Drakkar to the QMJHL semifinals and contributed 5 goals and 13 points in 12 playoff games. Martin, 20, took his game to another level in 2004-05 by posting a career- high with a team-leading 37 goals for the Drummondville Voltigeurs. The Montreal, Quebec, native ranked 8th in the league in goals (37), 4th in power play goals (18) and 9th in game-winning goals (7).
Iberer, pictured right, has played his entire professional career in his hometown of Graz, Austria. The 6-foot defenseman has played 6 years with EC Graz of the Austrian League, posting 4 goals and 20 assists in 229 games. Last season with EC Graz, he recorded a plus-minus rating of +7 and totaled 2 goals and 4 assists in 48 games. Iberer won a silver medal with the Austrian National Team at the 2002 IIHF World Junior Championships First Division.
According to ECHL Playing Rules, Iberer's Austrian League totals do not count towards his professional career totals. Therefore Iberer, 23, will officially be entering his rookie season in 2005-06.
"They're good, quality rookies," said Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond. "Last year we had Luis Trembley, Connor James and Brett Lutes contribute for us throughout the season and that's what we're looking for from [Reagan] Leslie, Martin and Iberer."
Martin and Iberer join Scott Balan, Scott Borders, David Cacciola, Mike Hofstrand, Andrew Ianiero, Kevin Kotyluk, Reagan Leslie, Michel Massie, Oriel McHugh, Nate Metcalf, Andrew Oke, Anders Olsson, Justin Quenneville, Kevin St. Jacques, Oscar Stenberg and Sean Venedam on the ice for the 2005-06 season, bringing the total number of players signed to 18.
The Bakersfield Condors season opens in 31 days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
