LA Galaxy News Release
The U.S. Women's National Team defeated rivals Mexico 5-1 in the team's penultimate match before the World Cup.
A sellout crowd of 27,000 was in attendance to see the home side rally in the second half to a convincing romp over rivals Mexico.
Sydney Leroux opened the scoring for the Americans in the 28th minute as she collected a ball from Megan Rapinoe, rounded the Mexican 'keeper and finished from a tight angle.
Mexico hit back almost immediately as a Bianca Seierra free kick caught Hope Solo out of position and Ariana Calderon headed home a first-half equalizer.
The USWNT came out firing after the break and found the go-ahead goal just 32 seconds into the second half. Lori Chalupny placed a shot into the back of the net after Abby Wambach laid it off to her following a scramble in the box.
15 minutes later, Abby Wambach added to the USWNT's lead from the penalty spot after the referee whistled for a handball in the box.
Leroux grabbed her second goal in the 61st minute in an almost carbon copy of her first-half strike.
Wambach rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute when she headed home a Tobin Heath cross in trademark fashion.
