
Chicago Fire Take on Columbus Crew SC

MEN IN RED HEAD TO THE BUCKEYE STATE
The Chicago Fire (3-5-1, ten points) hit the road for the second consecutive week to challenge long-time Eastern Conference foes Columbus Crew SC (4-4-2, 14 points) at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. CT (Univision Deportes/ESPN Deportes 97.5 FM).
This is the first of three regular season matches between the two sides this year. The Fire host the return leg at Toyota Park on Wednesday, July 15 before facing a quick turnaround and heading to MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday, July 19.
CHICAGO FIRE at COLUMBUS CREW SC
- The Chicago Fire are 24-14-14 all-time in regular season matches against Crew SC, including a 10-9-6 record in matches played in Ohio.
- This is the first time Fire defender Eric Gehrig will take on his former side. The Crown Point, Ind. native began his professional career when he joined Crew SC in advance of the 2011 season. In four seasons with Crew SC, Gehrig appeared in 46 regular season and two post season matches. The Fire PDL product was selected by Orlando City SC in the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft prior to joining the Fire in a trade on Dec. 10, 2014.
- Fire 'keeper Jon Busch also began his MLS career with Crew SC. In 2002, Busch was selected as the 23rd overall pick in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew. Busch made 84 regular season appearances for the Crew, leading the Crew to the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the Supporters' Shield before joining the Fire in March 2007.
- Fire Technical Director Brian Bliss joined the Fire in Dec. 2013 after six years serving as the Crew's Technical Director. On Sept. 2, 2013 Bliss was appointed Interim Head Coach of the Crew, where he led the Crew to a 4-4-0 record to close out the 2013 season. After playing abroad in Germany, Bliss returned to the United States in 1996 and was allocated to the Columbus Crew, where he made 31 appearances and scored one goal over the course of one-and-a-half seasons.

Homegrown defender Patrick Doody featured the full 90 minutes for Saint Louis FC's 2-1 loss against Toronto FC II on Thursday, May 14 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in St. Louis, Mo.
Next up Saint Louis FC take on the Des Moines Menace at Marshall Wireless Stadium in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. CT.
CHICAGO FIRE ACADEMY ROUNDUP
The Chicago Fire Academy teams went 2-1-0 over the weekend in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play.
Mauricio Pineda tallied a brace but the U-18s fell 3-2 to Indiana Fire Academy on Saturday morning at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Ind.
Djordje Mihalovic scored the lone goal as the U-16s defeated their Indiana Fire Academy brethren 1-0 in the second match of the day.
In the third and final match, first half strikes from Andrew Akindele and Adrian Lara led the young U-14s to a 2-0 victory over the Indiana Fire Academy.
