Chicago Stars FC News Release

Chicago, Ill. - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced the allocated players for the United States Women's National Team for the 2016 regular season. Julie Johnston, Alyssa Naeher and Christen Press all retain their status for the upcoming campaign.

Johnston had a breakout year for the U.S in 2015, playing every minute for the FIFA World Cup Champions. Drafted by the Red Stars in 2014, going third overall, Johnston was awarded NWSL Rookie of the Year for her solid performance as a central defender. In two seasons with the Red Stars the defender has totaled 32 starts and has even added a presence on the attack with 2 goals and 4 assists.

Alyssa Naeher is a new addition to the Chicago Red Stars, but is a veteran in the NWSL, previously with the Boston Breakers for three seasons. Naeher made a name for herself in 2014 when she set an NWSL record with 106 saves that season. After her record breaking year she was called up to the U.S. National Team and has been back-up to starting goalkeeper, Hope Solo, since.

Allocated in 2014 to the Chicago Red Stars, Christen Press has become one of the top forwards in the league in just a short time. Totaling 11 appearances last year in 2015, due to World Cup obligations, Press was second in the NWSL for goals scored with 10. Press scored eight goals in just five appearances for the U.S. during their Victory Tour matches and will look to continue to find the back of the net in Olympic Qualifiers this February.

As in the three previous years, U.S. Soccer will be subsidizing the salaries of their respective players.

The Red Stars coaches and front office are currently preparing for the 2016 College Draft to be held this coming Friday, January 15, at 9:00 a.m. CT at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention in Baltimore. Details may be found at www.NWSLsoccer.com.
