Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) received its player allocation from the U.S. Women's National Team on Wednesday, with Christie Rampone and Kelley O'Hara returning to the team for a fourth season.
"We are delighted to have Christie and Kelley back for the 2016 season," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC assistant coach. "Aside from their tremendous ability, they also provide us with two exceptional characters who bring a priceless level of experience and leadership, both on and off the field. Both players have been instrumental in the growth of Sky Blue FC in recent years, and we are looking to build upon that in 2016."
Rampone served as team captain of the U.S. Women's National Team for seven years and has recorded 311 caps for her country. Last summer, she won her second FIFA Women's World Cup as a member of the national team and also has three Olympic gold medals on her resume. The New Jersey native first suited up for her nation in 1997, and she has found the back of the net on four occasions during her prolific international career.
Rampone has spent each of the previous three seasons with Sky Blue FC since the inaugural year of the NWSL in 2013. She also spent two additional seasons with the New Jersey club prior to that and spearheaded a run to the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) championship. A graduate of Monmouth University, the defensive leader has tallied two goals and two assists on the offensive end of the field for Sky Blue FC over the past three seasons.
O'Hara has now participated in the past two FIFA Women's World Cups, helping the U.S. Women's National Team raise the championship last summer in Canada. In that tournament, the Stanford University graduate scored her first international goal when she buried a game-sealing tally in the semifinals against Germany. A winner of the 2009 MAC Hermann Trophy as college's best player, O'Hara played every minute for the U.S. Women's National Team en route to winning Olympic Gold in 2012.
The 2016 season will be the fourth consecutive year for O'Hara with Sky Blue FC, and she has registered 10 goals and 13 assists over 45 matches during her time in New Jersey.
