Western New York Flash News Release
ELMA, N.Y. - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the official list of U.S. Women's National Team allocated players from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) for the 2016 season. A total of 24 U.S. allocated players will be participating in the upcoming season.
The Flash will see two new allocated players for the 2016 season, with Jaelene Hinkle and Samantha Mewis earning allocation status for the first-time.
Hinkle and Mewis both enter their sophomore club season as newly appointed allocations after earning consistent call-ups to the U.S. WNT during the recent Victory Tour.
Hinkle, 22, was first called up to the U.S. WNT in October and earned her first cap on October 22 against Brazil. Hinkle then played in three-consecutive matches during the month of December at left back.
In her rookie NWSL campaign, Hinkle was one of two players on the Flash roster to play in all 1,800 minutes and was one of only two rookies in the league to do so. In addition to her consistent play on the backline, Hinkle scored one goal and added one assist for the Flash.
Mewis, 23, returned to the U.S. WNT pool this offseason after earning her first cap in the 2014 Algarve Cup. To date, Mewis has made four appearances for the U.S. Women after a successful tenure in the Youth National Team system.
A 2013 NCAA Champion with UCLA, Mewis led the Flash in points (12), goals (4) and assists (4) during 2015. She also led all NWSL rookies in assists, shots (55) and shots on goal (27) last season. The first-year performance led to Mewis being named a finalist for 2015 NWSL Rookie of the Year.
"We couldn't be more excited for Sam and Jae," said Rich Randall, General Manager of the Flash. "They've worked really hard to get to this point and I know this is just the beginning of great things to come for both of them."
The NWSL will have further announcements regarding the official list of allocated players from the Canadian Soccer Association and Federation of Mexican Football in the coming days.
Season tickets for the 2016 WNY Flash season are now available for as little at $100. For more information or to order, visit wnyflash.com or call (716) 655-PLAY.
