USHL Releases 2011-12 Schedule

Muskegon, Mich. - The United States Hockey League released the schedule for the 2011-12 regular season Tuesday afternoon, and Muskegon Lumberjacks President Tim Taylor beams when he looks at his club's 60-game slate.

"We're very excited to build on the success we had on and off the ice last season," Taylor said. "This is a great schedule for us, and the biggest difference is how balanced it is. There aren't any scenarios where we have just two home games over a span of seven weeks or anything to that effect. We're extremely pleased."

After playing their first four games of the season away from the L.C. Walker Arena, the Jacks will open the home portion of their slate against the defending Clark Cup champion Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Jacks will face the Saints six times this season. They'll see the Chicago Steel, Youngstown Phantoms, Indiana Ice, Green Bay Gamblers and Team USA eight times apiece.

The Jacks' busiest stretch at the L.C. Walker Arena will be from Friday, Dec. 2 through Friday, Feb. 10, a stretch during which they will play 14 of 19 games at home.

At the conclusion of the 480-game regular-season schedule, the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs will again have 12 teams competing - the top six teams in each conference.

One change has been made to the conference alignment: The Fighting Saints now will compete in the Eastern Conference and the Waterloo Black Hawks now will be part of the Western Conference.

The scheduling process was a collective effort from the 16 USHL member clubs and league office personnel to develop a set of games that balanced the required games between conference opponents, availability of arenas, preferred team dates and team travel demands.

"It was a different approach with the scheduling this year and the first time that senior management from each member club had direct involvement in the formation of the final product," USHL Commissioner Skip Prince said. "We believe a standard was set for collaboration on all levels during the process and thank each USHL organization for the time and effort spent to complete a schedule that is the outline for what will be an exciting 2011-12 season."

Lumberjacks season tickets can be purchased by dialing (231) 724-JACK (5225). The Jacks' staff also offers partial packages. Fans can purchase any number of games of their choice at a pro-rated season ticket price. Individual tickets will go on sale soon.

With the schedule released, the Jacks' staff now can finalize their promotion schedule for the upcoming season. The Stanley Cup could pay the arena a visit, and legendary organist Frank Pellico likely will tickle the ivories at the Jacks' friendly confines.

"As a staff, we have to look at the things that worked not just last season, but historically," Taylor said. "There are many exciting things in the works."
