Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - For the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the 2011-12 season will begin much in the manner that the 2010-11 campaign ended. The Green Bay Gamblers, who the Fighting Saints vanquished in four games to capture the Clark Cup, will be the opponent as the Fighting Saints open their regular season in Dubuque on Saturday, October 1. The opening game will be the first of three times that Dubuque will face off against the Gamblers in the Key City, with the other two coming on December 28 and March 9.

"The regular season looks to be very challenging as we look to become the first team to repeat as Clark Cup Champions since 1994," said Fighting Saints Head Coach Jim Montgomery. "Our schedule is perfectly suited for our fans to see our rivals of Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Green Bay often, while being able to watch see all the talented teams and players in the league at least once. We can't wait to start the season with a barn-burner at home against last year's Clark Cup Final opponent."

In addition that budding rivalry with Green Bay, Fighting Saints fans will have opportunities to see Dubuque take on local Iowa rivals Cedar Rapids and Waterloo four times each at home throughout the season. The RoughRiders will make their first visit to Dubuque on November 23, with follow-up trips coming on December 3, January 6, and February 11. The Black Hawks will play the Fighting Saints in Dubuque on October 14, December 17, February 24, and April 6.

The Fighting Saints will look to build on last season's tradition of home games around the Thanksgiving holiday with contests scheduled the night before Thanksgiving, November 23, and on Black Friday, November 25. The team will help fans ring in 2012 with a game against the Fargo Force on New Year's Eve, a Saturday night affair. The regular season will close with a pair of weekend games at the Mystique Community Ice Center on April 13 and 14, with the Chicago Steel in town on Friday, and the Muskegon Lumberjacks paying a visit to Dubuque on Saturday.

The 2011-12 schedule will send the Fighting Saints on a 198-day odyssey as they defend their Clark Cup title. 25 of the 30 Fighting Saints home games will be played on either Friday or Saturday nights. The Saints will play six straight home games from December 16 to January 6. That homestand is followed at the end of January by what could be the Fighting Saints most difficult road trip: a three-games-in-three-days swing through Youngstown, Ann Arbor (to play Team USA), and Muskegon from January 27 to 29.

The Fighting Saints will exchange places in the standings this season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Fighting Saints will compete in the Eastern Conference, while Waterloo heads to the Western Conference. The distribution of opponents will look very similar to last season for Dubuque, in which the Fighting Saints competed primarily against an Eastern Conference slate of opponents despite being in the Western Conference for standings purposes.

All Fighting Saints home games will have a start time of 7:05, with two exceptions. The New Year's Eve game on Saturday, December 31 against Fargo will begin at 6:05, and the start time for the game on Wednesday, February 8, against Des Moines, is to-be-determined.

The Fighting Saints will release information on ticket packages, mini-plans, and promotional nights in the coming days. Full-season tickets are on sale now - fans should call (563) 583-6880 for information.
