April 16, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
Des Moines, IA - Reserve center Darian Townes scored 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds while Energy newcomer Denham Brown scored a team high 28 points and 12 rebounds as the Iowa Energy stole game one in their 2010 NBA D-League Semifinal series with Tulsa, 107-102.
An even 1st quarter ended with the scored knotted at 21-21 before Iowa went on a 9-2 run to start the 2nd quarter to take a 30-23 lead. The two teams would trade runs for the remainder of the 2nd quarter and Iowa took a 54-44 lead into the halftime break.
Townes, who was thrust into action after starting center Connor Atchley got into foul trouble, fueled another Energy run to open the 3rd quarter as he knocked down four free throws to help Iowa extend its lead to 65-50. A Curtis Stinson free throw gave Iowa a 77-65 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.
Brown opened the scoring in the 4th quarter as he knocked down a 3-pointer. Tulsa responded with a 13-4 run that cut the Energy lead to 88-84 with 7:00 left in the game. Iowa immediately went on an 8-0 run capped by a Jeff Trepagnier jump shot to put the visitors up by 12 points. While the lead appeared to be comfortable for Iowa, Tulsa had other thoughts. The 66ers scored the next nine points of the game to make the score 96-93 with 2:17 left.
After an Energy timeout, a Stinson layup extended Iowa's lead to five. Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Kyle Weaver's layup moved the lead back to three points. With under a minute remaining in the game, Iowa's Trepagnier nailed a 20-foot jump shot to give the Energy a lead it wouldn't lose. Stinson and Brown made seven of eight free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
Stinson finished the game with 20 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists.
Tulsa was led by Weaver's 19 point, 10 assist effort while Larry Owens scored 20 points in the loss.
The Energy will host game 2 on Sunday, April 18th at 4pm. Game 3, if necessary, would be played on Tuesday, April 20th at 7pm in Des Moines.
Tickets are on sale for Sunday's game at www.dahlstickets.com or at the Wells Fargo Arena box office.
