D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (May 8, 2012) - D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today the schedule for United Reads during the 2012 spring season. United Reads is a signature program created to encourage elementary school students in the greater Metropolitan area to fall in love with reading and to promote the importance of healthy lifestyles. United Reads is currently in its tenth year and is sponsored by TD Bank with support from Volkswagen. The program will continue to partner with the Heart of America Foundation to provide new books to every student during D.C. United player visits to each school.

The spring season is highlighted by a host of player appearances at participating schools. United Reads will be at the six partner DC Public elementary schools between May 9 and 22. The spring session will include a visit to each school featuring a reading assembly for students in older grades and in-class visits for students in younger grade levels. During the visits, United players, staff and volunteers will actively engage students in activities and readings to encourage healthy lifestyles and the importance of reading. Visits will also feature a visit from D.C. United's mascot, Talon. At the end of each visit, every student will receive at least two new age-appropriate books to add to their home libraries.

The first visit by D.C. United players will be this Wednesday, May 9 at Simon Elementary School. Defender Ethan White and midfielder Lance Rozeboom will participate in the spring's first United Reads event.
