DILLON SERNA NAMED U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dillon Serna scored four goals and played the full 90 minutes during the Rapids U-18 team's 6-2 victory against the Colorado Rush on April 28, earning him U.S. Soccer Development Academy Player of the Week honors last week. Serna has appeared in 12 of the team's 15 games this season and leads the squad with eight goals.
SPOTS FILLING UP QUICKLY FOR PAUL BRAVO STRIKER CAMP: Spots in the Paul Bravo Striker Camp, hosted by the Colorado Rapids Academy, are filling up quickly and interested participants should register soon on www.ColoradoRapids.com/youth. The camp, which runs from May 21-23, is led by Colorado Rapids Technical Director and former MLS All-Star Paul Bravo and focuses on creating chances and the art of finishing.
COLORADO RAPIDS ACADEMY TO HOST 2012/13 SEASON TRYOUTS: The Colorado Rapids Academy announced that it will hold tryouts in May and July for the Academy teams and Development Academy squads. The Boys and Girls U-11 through U-14 teams will host tryouts at Dick's Sporting Goods Park from May 29-31. Tryouts the U-16 and U-18 Development Academy and High School Boys teams will be held July 24-26 at DSGP.
RAPIDS ACADEMY TO HOST TRYOUT INFORMATION SESSION MAY 20 AND 21: The Colorado Rapids Academy will host an information meeting about the Youth Academy tryouts open to all participants and parents on May 20 and 21. The session will begin at 4 p.m. on the 20th, and at 7 p.m. on Monday the 21st; both will be held on the 3rd floor press level of Dick's Sporting Goods Park. No RSVP is necessary, and all interested participants are invited to attend.
UNDER-18 ACADEMY TEAM SECOND IN CONFERENCE AND DIVISION: The Colorado Rapids Under-18 Academy currently sits in second place in both the Central Conference and Frontier Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy after tying local rivals Real Colorado 1-1 this weekend. The weekend before, they ousted another local opponent, Colorado Rush, 6-2 led by Dillon Serna with four goals and Shane O'Neill with two. The duo have been training with the Colorado Rapids first team since preseason. The squad will travel to St. Louis this weekend to take on St. Louis Gallagher Missouri and St. Louis Gallagher Metro on Saturday and Sunday. UNDER-16 ACADEMY SQUAD FALLS 1-0 TO RIVALS REAL COLORADO: The Colorado Rapids Under-16 Academy Squad heads to St. Louis to face St. Louis Gallagher Missouri and St. Louis Gallagher Metro this weekend after suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to local rivals Real Colorado. The weekend before, they blanked the Colorado Rush by a 4-0 score on Friday, led by Alex Toderica who scored a hat trick. TWO RAPIDS ACADEMY BOYS TEAMS ADVANCE TO STATE CUP SEMIFINALS: The U-13 and U-14 Colorado Rapids Academy teams advanced to the Colorado State Cup Semifinals after last weekend's Quarterfinal round. The U-13s, who are 3-0-1 in the tournament, defeated Pride SC Predators 3-2 and will take on the Colorado Storm on May 13. Meanwhile, the U-14s are 2-2-0 after blanking Pike Peak Rush Nike 2-0 last Sunday, and face Broomfield Blast SC on the 13th as well. The State Cup is the most significant tournament in the State of Colorado, and the winner of each age group will represent Colorado in the Regional competition to be held in June.
ABOUT THE U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY: The U.S Soccer Development Academy is a nationwide youth development initiative, organized by the U.S. Soccer Federation, featuring 78 of the top youth teams in the country competing in a league system at both the U-18 and U-16 levels. The 78 youth programs, including one U.S. Youth National Team in each age group, are divided into 10 geographically based divisions, each of which will send a single qualifier to the national finals after the regular season concludes in late June.
