WASHINGTON (December 10, 2017) - D.C. United have re-signed goalkeeper Steve Clark to a one-year contract. Clark played in five games for the Black-and-Red in 2017, recording one shutout in his return to Major League Soccer after signing with United during the summer transfer window from Danish side AC Horsens of the Danish Superliga.
"Since arriving with us, Steve has been a steady veteran presence in goal, " Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said. "We are excited that Steve will continue to play a role on this team both on the field and in the locker room."
Clark recorded 13 saves in five appearances for the Black-and-Red in 2017. The 31-year-old earned an MLS Save of the Week nomination for his penalty kick save against the New York Red Bulls during the final match at RFK Stadium on Oct. 22. Clark also earned an MLS Save of the Year nomination for his save against two-time MLS Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips at Red Bull Arena on Sept. 27.
The veteran goalkeeper has made 112 career MLS appearances, recording 24 clean sheets and making 388 saves. During his three year tenure in Columbus, Clark posted 22 regular season shutouts and missed only two matches. He also made at least 110 saves in all three seasons in Ohio, finishing second, second and fourth, respectively, in all of Major League Soccer. In 2014, Clark was named Crew SC's Defender of the Year and was one of only five players in MLS to play every minute of every match.
The Mason, Mich. native played collegiately at Oakland University (2005-2008) and went on to play for the Michigan Bucks of the USL Premier Development League (2006-2009) before departing for Norway's H =F8 nefoss BK in 2010.
