
United for D.C. announces United Award Reception details

Washington, D.C. (September 29, 2005) - On Monday, October 24, United's non-profit arm, United for D.C., will host the Second Annual United Awards Reception at the Marriott at Metro Center in downtown Washington, D.C. Following a 6:30 p.m. registration, the event will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a light cocktail hour. The Awards Reception to honor United's 2005 individual award winners will kick off at 8:00 p.m. United for D.C. will also announce the recipients of its 2005 United Community Grant initiatives at the event.
"On the heels of yet another successful Celebrity Golf Tournament, United for D.C. is proud to team up with D.C. United to host the Second Annual United Awards Reception," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and United Director of Community Relations. "This event is great in that it showcases the amazing accomplishments by the team and its players on the field while at the same time honoring equally amazing accomplishments by the charity and its annual grant recipients. We hope that United's fans and supporters will come out in large numbers to make this an especially special and successful affair."
The fundraising event is open to the public and provides various sponsorship opportunities. Presenting sponsorship status is available at $3,000 and includes recognition in press releases, website articles, logo recognition on banners, in the event program and via other materials and a set of five invitations to the reception. Supporting sponsorship status is available for $1,500 and includes log recognition on banners, in the event program and via other materials as well as a set of five invitations. Individual tickets are priced at $65.
At the event, D.C. United will honor its individual team award winners. Awards to be presented include Honda Most Valuable Player, Defender of the Year, Budweiser Golden Boot, D.C. United Coaches Award and US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. At last year's inaugural event, fans watched as Jaime Moreno walked away with three of the six awards presented, including Honda MVP.
In addition to recognizing the individual team honors, United for D.C. will present its second class of grant recipients awarded through the United Community Grants program. Funded by the success of United for D.C.'s various fundraisers, including the Awards Reception, United Community Grants allows the charity to take a more active role in realizing its mission by awarding up to $30,000 in grants to non-profit organizations throughout the Washington, D.C. area that use the sport of soccer to make a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged youth. Last year, United for D.C. awarded $25,000 worth of grants to the inaugural class of recipients, including long-term partner, DC SCORES.
