Colorado Rapids News Release

DENVER, CO (Thursday, September 29, 2005)- Kroenke Sports Enterprises, the Colorado Rapids, Ventura Productions and Grand Promotions announced today their plans to host an International Doubleheader that will feature Mexican first division clubs Cruz Azul A.C. and CD Chivas de Guadalajara that will take place on Wednesday, October 5th at INVESCO Field at Mile High immediately following the Colorado Rapids vs. Chivas USA match that will kick off at 7:00 pm (MT).

"We are extremely excited to be able to bring these two high-caliber Mexican teams to INVESCO Field," said Colorado Rapids General Manager and COO Charlie Wright. "Even though the game came together in such an unexpected timeframe, it was hard to pass on the opportunity to offer this doubleheader to all Colorado soccer fans. We are expecting a great night of international soccer."

CD Guadalajara, nicknamed "Las Chivas", has established itself as the most recognized and fanatically-supported team in Mexico. The club, created in 1906, has won a total of 10 national championships, including four in a row (1959-1962). Continuing a long-lasting tradition, Club Guadalajara has conquered all of their national and international championships utilizing only Mexican-born players on their team.

Chivas most recently stunned the international soccer community by reaching the semifinal stage of the prestigious Copa Libertadores after defeating Boca Juniors in the quarterfinal round.

Cruz Azul, nicknamed "La Maquina Cementera" (The Cement Machine) in honor of their ownership group, was established in 1927 by a group of workers of the "La Cruz Azul" cement company in the town of Jasso, Hidalgo. The club, which eventually moved their headquarters to "La Noria", a suburb in the south of Mexico City, has accumulated eight Mexican First Division league Championships, among many other trophies.

At the international level, Cruz Azul recorded one of the club's top moments in 2001, when the team played in the Championship match of the Copa Libertadores, only to lose to Argentine club Boca Juniors in a match that was decided in penalty kicks.

Cruz Azul just recently endured one of the club's most emotional chapters when their head coach Argene Ruben Omar Romano made world headlines when he was kidnapped and held captive for 65 days before being rescued by local Mexican authorities less then two weeks ago. The team is currently in third place of the Mexican league and holds a 7-2-1 record.

Cruz Azul is expected to arrive in Denver on Monday, October 3rd and practice at the Rapids Training Facility on Tuesday, October 4th.

CD Guadalajara, which is expected to arrive in the Mile High City on Tuesday, October 4th, will premiere their new coach, former Real Madrid head coach Francisco Javier Azcargorta, who was appointed as the new leader of the so-called Sacred Flock a couple of weeks ago.

Ticket prices for the Rapids' International Soccer doubleheader Extravaganza start at $10 dollars. Tickets for the event, which includes both matches, are on sale now through the Rapids Ticket Office at 303-825-GOAL, at the Pepsi Center box office, at the INVESCO Field box office, or via TicketMaster at 303-830-TIXS or any TicketMaster outlet. Ticket prices will have a $5 increment starting at 9:00 p.m. (MT) on the day of the game.
