D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (July 14, 2010) - D.C. United announced today plans to collect soccer equipment during the month of July to benefit Athlete to Atleta. Accepted items range from cleats, uniforms, and goalie equipment to soccer balls and trophies. Each month during the 2010 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United will collect items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area.

Athlete to Atleta is an anti-gang program created in Northern Virginia. The program was founded to encourage North American high school students and soccer enthusiasts to give back to their countries of origin while providing them a strong connection with their home school via the sport of soccer. D.C. United is a proud partner of the Athlete to Atleta program.

A new component has been added to increase community involvement with the United Drives program for 2010. Youth soccer teams throughout the Metropolitan area have been invited to participate in "The Challenge". The team that collects the most items each month will be awarded a pizza party at Ledo Pizza with a D.C. United player. Ledo Pizza is the official pizza of D.C. United

Additionally, all fans that donate an item will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, redeemable for that day's match or selected 2010 regular season home game. The collection bin on game days is located outside RFK Stadium's Gate A, and is open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off.

Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices on non-game days, located on the fourth floor of Gate A. This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign, which collects much-needed items to help with each beneficiary's mission. Below is a list of what items will be collected in advance of each home game:
